Tag Of The Day: Prins Thomas ‘Uggebugg’

March 30th, 2010

We’re big fans of Prins Thomas at Shazam. His unique brand of blissed out Scandinavian disco often receives heavy rotation on the office stereo and routinely soundtracks Monday mornings.  Through a bizarre and complicated set of company in-jokes, Prins’ name even became a by-word for a coffee amongst Shazam’s Music Team.

It’s with some pleasure then, that we can tell you Prins Thomas’ debut self-titled album is a winner. Those familiar with Thomas’ vast back catalogue will know what to expect. Psychedelically burbling synthesisers wash up against Balearic flavoured guitar lines and live drums to create a warm bath of melodic funk that’s neither too urgent nor too ambient.

One of the album’s highlights is ‘Uggebugg’; an off kilter percussion driven delight that somehow manages to contain shades of both Larry Levan’s disco mixes and Chris Rea’s ‘Josephine’.

Prins Thomas ‘Prins Thomas’ is out now.

Tag Of The Day! Ali Love ‘Love Harder’

March 2nd, 2010

After his download only single ‘Diminishing Returns’ late last year, Ali Love returns with his first full release from his forthcoming second album. ‘Love Harder’ is an entrancing slice of Italo sliced pop, one that proves a great taster for the album. You may remember Ali Love from his appearance on The Chemical Brothers ‘Do It Again’ or for his unfairly ignored singles ‘Secret Sunday Lover’ and ‘Late Night Session’. After parting ways with his previous label Columbia, Love has joined forces with UK indie label Back Yard Recordings – home to the likes of Chromeo, Gossip and Teenagersintokyo.

‘Love Harder’ is released on March 8th on single and download. For a sneak preview of the track, head here to download a free remix by Norwegian space-disco master Prins Thomas.
