Shazam Meets… Primary 1

Primary 1 has been on our radar ever since his debut single ‘Hold Me Down’ – released on Erol Alkan’s ‘Phantasy Sound label’  ingrained itself in our ears back in 2008. Since then the British producer, aka Joe Flory has kept our attention with a clutch of singles and remixes. After his recent collaborations with fellow producer Riton, Primary 1 returns with his latest single ‘Princess’ on 5th July, the first release from his recent deal with Atlantic. It’s an addictive slice of perky electro pop that is sure to soundtrack its fair share of hazy summer evenings this year. It’s also backed by a fantastic video, which brings to life the surrealist art of Rene Magritte.

We caught up with Primary 1 – fresh from his first appearance at Glastonbury – to discuss the single, future collaboration plans and if England’s disappointing exit from the World Cup soured the mood at Glastonbury.

New Music First! Riton & Primary 1 – ‘Who’s There?’

The latest release on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Label is collaboration between the increasingly prolific producer/DJ Riton and rising star Primary 1. After releasing the krautrock inspired Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, it seems Riton has a sights now firmly set on the dancefloor. The track has been described as “the finest paranoid classic since Geto Boys ‘My Minds Playing Tricks On Me”; which sums it up perfectly. Riton’s irresistibly filthy production couples perfectly with Primary One’ sketchy tales of fear.

The video was directed by James Connolly, also known as emerging producer L-Vis 1990. Whose raucous sets at Night Slugs are fast becoming the toast of the underground club scene in East London. The track is now available on iTunes
