Beck’s Record Club Covers INXS ‘Kick’

The latest project from the always unquiet Beck is a gathering of fellow musicians to cover a landmark album. However, the project comes with an added improvisational twist –  total freedom in the studio and a recording time limit of one day.

The LA star has called his new idea Record Club and so far the likes of Lesley Feast, Jeff Tweedy and Devendra Banhart have taken part. Previous Record Club offerings have included recreations of Velvet Underground’s ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’, Leonard Cohen’s ‘Songs Of Leonard Cohen’ and Skip Spence’s ‘Oar’.

‘Kick’, the finest hour of Aussie rockers INXS, is the latest opus chosen to be covered. Beck congregated a fine collection of artists for the occasion. Art-rockers Liars, Sergio Dias from Os Mutantes, Annie Clark and Daniel Hart from St Vincent and keyboardist/regular collaborator Brian LeBarton all feature. The songs of the long player will be posted on Record Club’s website one by one following the original running order of ‘Kick’. The first two, ‘Guns In The Sky’ and ‘Sweet Sensation’, are already up.

Stream The New Liars Album In Full

Our favourite US art rockers are previewing their fifth studio album ‘Sisterworld’ in full at MySpace one week ahead of release.

The album was conceived and recorded in Los Angeles and it’s based on Liars’ interest for “the alternate spaces people create in order to maintain identity in a city like L.A. Environments where outcasts and loners celebrate a skewered relationship to society”. ‘Sisterworld’ is somehow the trio’s attempt to find one of those alternate spaces and preserve their musical identity. The anticipating track ‘Scissors’ takes off right where their acclaimed ‘Drum’s Not Dead’ ended.

‘Sisterworld’ is released via Mute on March the 8th in normal and expanded versions. The expanded one will feature a bonus remix disc featuring the likes of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, Melvins and others reworking some of its tracks.

Further details and tour dates are available at Liars official webpage.
