Download New Young Pony Club’s latest single.

December 15th, 2009

NYPC

After releasing their debut album - the Mercury nominated ‘Fantastic Playroom’ – and touring it across the globe, New Young Pony Club are back with their new album. ‘The Optimist’ is released on March 1st through their own label, while it seems things with their former label Modular didn’t go to plan the band have refused to let this halt their progress.

The first track taken from the album is ‘Lost A Girl’, which is available as a free download through their website. It’s a catchy slice of punk funk that deals tells the tale of a love lost. As with CSS it appears that NYPC’s sophomore effort may be a slightly more serious affair then their playful debut, but  if ‘Lost A Girl’ is anything to go by, this can only be a good thing.

Mickey Gang Hit London!

MG

After winning us over with their ace debut single ‘Horses Can’t Dance’, Mickey Gang played a handful of debut London shows. As the band hail from Brazil, we took the opportunity to catch them while we could. The youthful foursome seem likely to follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen CSS and burst out from the Brazilian scene and on to wider acclaim. Imagine if  The Teenagers were actually in their teens and crafted catchier songs, the result wouldn’t be a million miles away from these guys. On tracks like ‘Born in the 90’s’ they perfectly display their youthful exuberance and back it with neatly honed melodies. Head to their MySpace for a listen.

Fever Ray is re-releasing her critically acclaimed debut on a special edition that will include two live favourite covers – Vashti Bunyan’s “Been Here Before” and Nick Cave and Anita Lane’s “Stranger Than Kindness”- as bonus tracks, plus a DVD containing the promo videos for all four singles; a few of which can be seen in the player below.

The deluxe edition for the side project of The Knife’s vocalist Karin Dreijer Andersson will be preceded by a new singe, ‘Seven’, on October the 5th, one week before the album’s hit the shops. Available on 12″ and download formats, ‘Seven’ will feature remixes by CSS, Crookers and Martyn, among others.

It will serve as a good appetizer for Karin’s fandom, while they’re eagerly awaiting The Knife’s next project, the music and libretto for the theatre group Hotel Pro Forma’s forthcoming opera ‘Tomorrow, In A Year”, which will premiere in Copenhagen this November and is said to be inspired by Darwin’s concepts of evolution, life, etc., commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the author’s revolutionary opus “The Origin of the Species”.
