Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me

“Yo Britney, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z’s single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL,” wrote KanYe West on Twitter, showing that her new single has firmly caught the attention of the pop world.
Britney Spears is back to re-launch her career with a new combination of dubstep and pop. The pop queen’s latest song ‘Hold It Against Me’, produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke (Ke$ha & Katy Perry) has shot to #1 in the US iTunes. The industrial blended beat has a reminiscent chorus nurtured from The Cutting Crew’s ‘Died In Your Arms Tonight’. However most noticeable is the out of context, literally wobbly, breakdown at 2min 10seconds onwards.
The concept is simple, Britney has been out of the spotlight for a while and need’s the gossip she has been lacking, a few leaks on blogs of an apparent new song, an eccentric talking point in the breakdown and the outcome? Britney scores a #1. Yet to be released in the UK, the track has been added to the C list of BBC’s Radio 1. A mixed reception from the track and a cameo appearance on the latest T.V phenomenon Glee should see Britney’s comeback single to dominate the UK’s charts, however, by jumping on the bandwagon and introducing dubstep into her records could be seen as trying too hard and jeopardize her chances in the UK.
With the video to H.I.A.M being filmed in England and the single to be released any moment, this has certainly got the critics and bloggers talking about her much anticipated album; due for release in March later this year. To make up your own mind, check out the track here.
