After releasing one of the best underground albums of recent times, raucous US duo Sleigh Bells are now slowly garnering the mainstream attention they deserve. The band consists of vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist/producer Derek E. Miller. Despite hugely different pasts (Miller previously played in a hardcore band and Krauss an all girl pop group), Sleigh Bells create a glorious racket that pins that pins them somewhere between M.I.A. and Crystal Castles. They recently played one of the standout sets of Coachella Festival and are currently taking their explosive live show across the US.
The band have also gained a lot of exposure in the UK after their track ‘Infinity Guitars’ was used in the recent Orange Windows Phone advertising campaign. The track – with its crunchy garage rock riffs juxtaposing with dirty beats – is just one of the highlights of their debut album ‘Treats’- currently available on iTunes. Their new single ‘Rill Rill’ will be released on June 13th.

This summer the electro phenomenon Deadmau5 will take over London’s Victoria Park with a huge open-air headline show. As well as his increasingly impressive live show, the man in the mouse mask has attracted a stellar line-up of support acts. The bill is cluttered with some of the most exciting names in dance music, including DJ sets from Mark Ronson, Calvin Harris and Zane Lowe. Some up and coming talent comes in the form of Nero, who picked up this year’s Beatport Award for Best Dubstep Act; and Skrillex, whose unique mish mash of dupstep and electro have been winning him a small army of fans in the States.

This week sees the release of Bob Marley And The Wailers ‘Live Forever’, a full recording of the legendary artist’s last performance. The concert took place on September 23, 1980 at Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh and this release captures the event fully. Featuring highlights from the singer’s vast catalogue- including ‘Jamming’, ‘Exodus’ and ‘Get Up Stand Up’ - the audio was mastered from the original reel to reel tape recording taken from the event.
“Bob’s music has always conveyed a message of hope, unity and love. It has brought countless people together as it did that night 30 years ago in Pittsburgh. To hear that music today and to be able to share it with a new generation shows that Bob is as relevant today as he was 30 years ago,”says Rita Marley, wife of the reggae star.

2010 proved to be a fruitful one for UK production duo Mighty Mouse, they first came to our attention with their effortlessly smooth mix albums ‘Disco Circus Volume 1 & 2’. Bringing together the likes of Fever Ray, Franz Ferdinand, Chic and their own productions, the compilation’s certainly caught our ear and had us eager to hear what else they had up their sleeves. After remixing a plethora of acts including Gorillaz, Fenech Solar and Robbie Williams, last month the pair released ‘Song With No Word’ – a collection of ten untitled tracks that provide the perfect introduction to their cosmic infused sound.
“All everyone tells us is that the album is dying, so we wanted to write something that isn’t focused on singles. Now we’re working on songs WITH words and the full Mighty Mouse band, it feels like a natural progression.” (Mighty Mouse).

Stereolab were one of the choice alternative bands of the early 90’s, formed in London back in 1990. As stalwarts of the post rock genre, despite several line-up changes over the years, these instigators and maintainers of the UK alternative scene are back with a tenth studio album that is a collection of all previously unreleased tracks recorded at the same time as 2008’s ‘Chemical Chords’.

Faithless are a band that have managed to shatter all the old stereotypes surrounding dance music. Anyone who says dance music can’t appeal to stadium sized crowds should have seen them pack the fields surrounding Glastonbury’s inconceivably large Pyramid Stage this year. Further to that, anyone wishing to dispel the myth that electronic music is faceless could quickly point to frontman Maxi Jazz – one of the most instantly recognisable characters the British music industry has produced in the past 15 years. The group has had some huge hits, such as the evergreen ’Insomnia’, and have as much crowd rocking know-how as almost any guitar band out there.
