April 21st, 2010

With the weather emergining from the jaws of Winter and into Summer, excitement for the dance music community’s annual migration to the Balearic Islands is mounting. Early news indicates that the line up will be as action packed as ever: despite the fact that tourism Ibiza has been pinched in recent years by rising prices and competition from events such as The Miami Winter Music Conference.

DC-10, Ibiza’s most infamous nightspot, has announced it will re-open this year after a forced term of absence while big clubs such as Amnesia and Pacha continue to attract the crème of credible dance music talent – most notably Luciano’s Cadenza night and Sven Väth’s legendary Cocoon parties. Music wise Ibiza looks in great shape, even if it still remains one hell of an expensive holiday…

Not only are they giving away free entry and guestlist to the Defected night in Pacha, but they are also offering free flights and accommodation at the super plush and exclusive Defected Villa.

The prize includes:
Return flights and airport transfers in Ibiza
2 nights at the Defected Villa

Free entry to Pacha plus plenty of drinks tickets

The competition closes on the 26th of April.

To enter, simply register at the Defected website and answer a simple question.

Pavement To Release Best Of

January 7th, 2010

To coincide with their reunion gigs later in the year, US college rock Godfathers Pavement have announced they’ll be releasing a best of compilation. ‘Quarantine The Past: The Best Of Pavement’ is released through Domino on the 8th March. The 23 track collection promises not just to deliver the bands most well known songs, but provide a true retrospective of their recorded output from 1989 to 1999. While it’s certain this compilation will be essential for fans and any newcomers to the band, so far we’re not able to make any comments on it. Rather than reveal the track listing, the band have launched a competition for fans to guess what songs will make up the album. Prizes will be awarded for the following;

  • First Prize – Given to whoever guesses the full track listing, or closest.
  • Second Prize – For whoever comes up with the most imaginative track list.
  • Four runners up will also win prizes, two in each category.

The prizes on offer ensure that this competition is worth five minutes of your time. First prize is a pair of tickets, complete with flights and hotel, to see Pavement in New York later in the year – with the added bonus of the bands back catalogue on vinyl. There are also plenty of other prizes up for grabs, for more info head to the Matador website.

Win a signed David Guetta album!

November 18th, 2009

guetta one love

With a slew of chart topping singles under his belt, production credits on the Black Eyed Peas’ multi platinum selling hits, and a continued dominance of the world’s best night clubs and festivals; you could certainly say 2009 hasn’t been a bad year for David Guetta. Not content with being one of the most successful dance producers on the planet, the DJ/Producer has used the last 12 months to storm the world’s pop charts – becoming one of the most consistent hit makers on the planet. Added to this, hook ups with Akon and Kelly Rowland have become some of the most tagged tracks at Shazam worldwide taking the number one spot in our tag charts both in the UK and USA.

However, while Guetta’s experienced a huge uplift in exposure this year, he’s far from forgotten his club music background. His revered club night in Ibiza , ‘F*** Me I’M Famous’, has continued to go from strength to strength while more underground productions from the Frenchman, such as ‘Grrrrr’, have continued to win over some of the world’s most important dance music tastemakers.

To celebrate the release of his latest album, ‘One Love’, we’re giving you a chance to win a copy of the CD signed by the man himself.

All you have to do to stand a chance of winning is email competition@shazamteam.com with your address and answer to the following question:

Who collaborates with David Guetta on his latest single, ‘One Love’?

A) Pitbull

B) Flo-Rida

C) Estelle

Terms and conditions of competition: 1.Closing date for the competition is 01/12/2009. All entries after this point will be void. 2. All winners will be notified by email on 01/12/2009. 3. All correct answers will enter a prize draw and the winners selected at random. 4. There will be three winners who will win a signed David Guetta CD 6.
