Win A Signed Rebecca Ferguson Album

November 28th, 2011
Comments Off

It’s just over a year since Rebecca Ferguson introduced herself to the world on the UK’s X Factor. The painfully shy single mother, and eventual runner up of the competition, produced the show’s most memorable performance of the season during her audition, a fact that’s bolstered by the video’s 2.9 million plus views on Youtube.

Her debut single ‘Nothing’s Real But Love’ is passionate yet displays the control that only a great singer can muster. The subject is one close to Rebecca’s heart; “People used to say to me, ‘Being rich doesn’t make you happy.’ And I’d think, I’ve got no electricity. Tell that to my empty fridge. But now I’m doing okay I realise they were right. It doesn’t matter what you’ve got, as long as you’ve got love. I know that sounds cheesy, but that’s everything.”

To celebrate the release of Rebecca Ferguson’s debut single “Nothing’s Real But Love”, Shazam are giving you the chance to win a signed copy of Rebecca’s forth coming album, “Heaven”, out 5th December.

To stand a chance of winning a signed copy of the album, simply email competition@shazamteam.com with the answer to this simple question. Remember to include your name and contact details.

B) A Change Is Gonna Come – Sam Cooke

Win Signed Cults 7″s!

July 26th, 2011

Cults are fronted by New York couple Brian Oblivion and Madeline Fox, since their inception the band have been on the receiving end of some intimidating hype. With melodies that recall Phil Spector’s early work, this boy/girl duo soon got the likes of Pitchfork swooning with their early demos. That, plus a vague air of mystery added by their enigmatic website, ensured people were quickly trying to find out more about the band; including one Lily Allen, who snapped up the band as her first signing to her label In The Name Of, a joint venture with Columbia.

Their self titled debut album was released to wide acclaim at the end of May, with eleven tracks that fully justified the buzz they’ve so far received. While on the surface, a band comprising of a couple singing doe-eyed jangly pop could seem overly saccharine, Cults’ off kilter pop will change the minds of even the most harden cynic.

DJ Fresh’s ‘Louder’ is the biggest record of 2011 in the UK. If you don’t believe that, just take a look at the stats. On the 18th May the record climbed to the top of the Shazam New Release Chart UK. From then on it held on to the number one spot with ease remaining the most tagged pre release record in Britain for a record breaking eight weeks, smashing the longest spell held at the top of the chart previously held by Tinie Tempah.

The record was released last week and immediately broke the first week sales record for 2011, shifting an eye watering 140,000 copies in seven days. We told the world it was going to big before it had even hit radio, and ‘Louder’s’ emphatic sales figures have proven yet again the power of Shazam’s charts in predicting future hits. (Not that we like to brag about that kind of thing.)

To celebrate this milestone achievement we have a bunch of great compilations from Ministry Of Sound to give away, that not only feature ‘Louder’, but a whole host of bass bin quaking dance music goodness.

Win Wild Fox T-shirts Courtesy Of SoundGirl

May 13th, 2011
Comments Off

If you believe the predictions of the influential blog popjustice blog (and plenty of people do) you’d be aware that SoundGirl are set for big things. A girl group still in their early teens, SoundGirl have already supported the pint-sized mega star Justin Bieber and notched up a handful of blog-hyped tracks. Their first official single, ‘Don’t Know Why’, sees the band as their sassy best. Borrowing the chorus from Carly Simon’s summery cult hit ‘Why’, the track is straight up pop in the best possible sense. Comparisons to Sugarbabes and Rihanna are sure to follow – especially since the video for ‘Don’t Know Why’ was shot in Rhi-Rhi’s old stomping ground of Barbados.

To celebrate the release of ‘Don’t Know Why’ Shazam has two vintage Wildfox t-shirts to giveaway – much like the ones the band wore when supporting Bieber (see below). For those not in the know, Wildfox are a so hot right now clothing brand from LA sported by the the likes of Victoria Beckham and Halle Berry. Specialising in vintage-inspired printed t-shirts with statement cuts and draped designs, these T-shirts are guaranteed to make you stand out in the crowd.

All you have to do to stand a chance of winning the prize is email competition@shazamteam.com with your answer to this simple question.
