2 Chainz Feat. Drake – No Lie

Looking at the number of guest appearances 2 Chainz has notched up over the course of his career is exhausting. He’s featured on tracks with Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross and Nick Minaj, and that’s only scratching the surface. With such a long record as a back up man, there’s always the risk that 2 Chainz could end up embodying the hip-hop equivalent of ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’. Thankfully, it seems the man formerly known as Tity Boi is ready to stand on his own two feet.
Fresh from popping up on ‘Mercy’ by his GOOD Music label boss Kanye West, 2 Chainz is finally here with some new stuff of his own. As well as taking centre stage this time round he’s even brought along a guest, none other than Degrassi High’s most famous graduate Drake.
With his clipped and drawling delivery 2 Chainz is never in danger of being overshadowed by his co-conspirator. The track is chiefly concerned with all those things money can buy: cars, blunts, booze and surgically enhanced lady friends. It’s slinky, smoky stuff, 2 Chainz’ idiosyncratic style gelling well with Drake’s more soulful contributions.
‘No Lie’ is the opening salvo of 2 Chainz’s new album ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’. Despite his many mixtapes and long time in the game it is his first ‘proper’ LP, so expectations are understandably high. Unsurprisingly for such a long time team player, it’s set to feature plenty of collaborations. He’s not handing out the full guest list yet, but he has made some revelations. “I may talk about some producers, but I’m gonna have some elements of surprise on the album,” he told The Boombox. “Of course I’m workin’ wit my Drumma Boys, my C-Notes, my Lex Lugers, my Mike Wills, plus this new generation, the new people that I’m working with as well. It’s a well-put together project. It’s conceptual, and you should be looking out for some new dope visuals too.”
