Paul Simon Graceland 25th Anniversary – Win Copies!
This year sees the 25th anniversary of Paul Simon’s groundbreaking album ‘Graceland’. The record continues to be a reference point and influence on many artists, you only need to listen to Vampire Weekend’s witty lyrics and nods to afrobeat to hear Simon’s inspiration. Pitchfork described the album as “a phenomenal musical achievement” and in 2006 Time listed ‘Graceland’ in their Top 100 albums. Recorded at the height of apartheid, Simon travelled to South Africa and worked with local musicians, which introduced the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo to a global audience.
To coincide with the anniversary, the Joe Berlinger directed documentary ‘Under African Skies’ premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Following the recording and documenting the albums lasting influence, the film is set to be broadcast on BBC1 this summer.
Sony Music are commemorating the occasion with the 25th Anniversary Eidtion; which includes a CD/DVD with bonus tracks, a copy of Under African Skies’ and bonus extended interviews. Luckily, we have five copies to give away!
