B.o.B – So Good

March 17th, 2012

Is it just us, or does B.o.B’s latest release vibrate with the sunny rays of summer days? The third single to be released from forthcoming album Strange Clouds, “So Good” has a lovely and warm radio-friendly feel that makes you wish it was warm enough to cruise around with the windows down (rather than huddled against the demisters wishing the car would warm up faster).

The track was produced by Ryan Tedder, better known to most people as the frontman for group OneRepublic, Tedder is a successful singer-songwriter, and has produced records for everyone. We mean, absolutely everyone – check out this list: Beyonce, Hilary Duff, Adele, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Adam Lambert … not bad, eh?

B.o.B’s last two single releases were “Strange Clouds” and “Play the Guitar”, very different offerings that had the rapper collaborating with his rapper comrades, Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne; “Strange Clouds” was darker, harder hip-hop, while “Play the Guitar” was a more playful but quicker jam.

The tune is a refreshingly upbeat track with summertime hit written all over it, and shows a more cuddly side to the Atlanta rapper than he showed off in the video to Tech N9ne’s “Am I A Psycho?”, in which B.o.B crept around a haunted house, haunting the hallways while Tech N9ne and Hopsin wielded chainsaws and freaked us out.

His sophomore album Strange Clouds is scheduled for release on 1 May 2012. It follows the huge debut that was The Adventures of Bobby Ray but B.o.B isn’t worried about becoming formulaic. “I think that people will definitely be surprised at the music they hear on the second album,” he told MTV. “I don’t think they would expect that coming from me. There’s probably going to be some surprises.”

“You should never get comfortable,” he said. “I feel like, for me, I embrace everything.”
The rapper has taken a very different approach to producing this new album. “I feel like this album is the culmination of my life story,” he told Rap-Up.com. “I’m bringing people into my world with just the story and the building blocks that created B.o.B, and I wanted to spend a lot of time with it. It’s a lot more centred with a core sound. I was a lot more honest on this album. I feel like I’m continuously honest in the moment to moment, but I’m constantly changing.”

“When I made this album, I wanted to make sure that I was a part of everything that was made, even from the time a demo was recorded to the time it’s mixed,” he went on. “I really wanted to be hands-on with the project. You really got to treat it like a child. You gotta nurture it and give it the right amount of attention.”

Do you think “So Good” is going to be a huge summer jam?

“So Good” is scheduled to drop on Wednesday 21 March 2012. Boom!
