Tag Of The Day! Tinchy Stryder ‘In My System’

July 26th, 2010
Comments Off

It continues to be a great 2010 for Tinchy Stryder as he gears up to release his latest single, ‘In My System’. Taken from his forthcoming third album ‘Third Strike’; the track is a shimmering slice of electronic pop that sees the rapper describe the details of a hypnotic encounter with an unnamed object of his affections. Released through Island on August 8th, with its catchy chorus and sun kissed video the track is set to become a late entry for many people’s anthem of the summer.

Tinchy will undoubtedly be unleashing ‘In My System’ at a number of festival dates this summer, before embarking on a full UK tour later in the year as part of the ‘Clubland Live’ tour – with the likes of Scooter, Ultrabeat and former grime pals Roll Deep. The track is currently available for pre order on iTunes.

Shazam Meets… Midnight Juggernauts

July 26th, 2010
Comments Off

Midnight Juggernauts burst on to the scene back in 2006 when their singles were lauded by the likes of Modular, Kitsuné Maison and by fellow Australian’s Cut Copy – who featured ‘Shadows’ on their Fabriclive 29 mix. Their debut album ‘Dystopia’ bred a clutch of addictive singles including the sonic blast of ‘Ending Of An Era’ and the cosmic pop of ‘Into The Galaxy’. Following the release of their debut the trio of Vincent Vendetta (vocals, keys), Andy Szekeres (bass/guitar) and Daniel Stricker (drums) embarked on a mammoth world tour; supporting the likes of Justice, Klaxons and M83 plus leaving their impression on many festival goers across the globe.

After such a hectic schedule you’d expect the band to want to take a break from each other. However they decamped straight to the studio to begin work on their follow up album. ‘The Crystal Axis’ is a richer and deeper album than their debut, with the band expanding on their foundations with a bolder and tantalising new sound. We caught up with Andy to discuss the new album, working with Solange and how the band nearly missed their slot at this year’s Lovebox festival.

Android Fans – you still get unlimited tagging if you downloaded Shazam before 13/07/10

July 23rd, 2010

We’ve dedicated this blog post to help resolve any misunderstanding around the continutation of free unlimited tagging for our original users who downloaded Shazam on Android Market before 13th July 2010.

To give you some background, our original Shazam on Android app (version 1) was a great success, quickly becoming one of the most popular downloads on Android Market. In gratitude to our version 1 users who supported us, we decided to adopt a ‘grandfathering’ approach, giving them the best of both worlds – the continuation of unlimited tagging, together with all the great features in our new release (version 2.0).   This offer is for the life of their current device.

So how does it work?

Shazam has two consumer offerings:

  • Shazam: A free to download app supported by advertising, with core functionality and ability to identify up to 5 songs per month
  • Shazam Encore: A premium version of the app with no advertising, unlimited tagging and additional features.

If you downloaded the free version of Shazam prior to the 13th of July 2010 and tagged at least one song, you can update to the latest version of Shazam and still receive unlimited tagging.

Shazam is supported by advertising, so our existing version 1 users who downloaded 2.0 will still see adverts on their device but still keep unlimited tagging. Grandfathered users can of course purchase Shazam Encore to enjoy the Shazam experience without advertising.

Users who downloaded version 1 and tagged at least one song, but subsequently removed/uninstalled the application also keep unlimited tagging when they download the latest version – you do not have to keep the old version on your phone for unlimited tagging to remain. Users can also uninstall and reinstall 2.0 without affecting their grandfathered- status.

We hope this post has helped clarify things. If you’d like find out more about our Android app, please visit our website and check out the FAQ page.

New Music First! David Simon ‘Collision’

July 23rd, 2010
Comments Off

Hailing from Southend Essex, 24 year old David Simon is a singer songwriter with big ideas. The release of his debut album ‘Collision’ brings a mixture of self-penned sumptuous, catchy tunes & ballads to the world of popular music.

His next single, ‘It’s Not About Me’, is being released on 25th July with all the money going to David’s charity of choice, Child Rescue. The track is a smoldering, jazzy number smothered with edgy riffs and brass accompaniment that will sound great when performed live and should help bring David Simon to a new, wider audience.

For more information on David check out his myspace page or have a listen to his album sampler above. ‘Collision’ is also available to purchase on itunes Click here to buy

Tag Of The Day! The Count & Sinden Feat. Mystery Jets ‘After Dark’

July 22nd, 2010

‘After Dark’ is the debut single taken from The Count & Sinden’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, ‘Mega Mega Mega’. Taking its name from the pair’s notorious East London club night, the album promises to be a seriously bombastic listen. For this single The Count (aka Herve) & Sinden enlisted the help of Mystery Jets – fresh from delivering one of our favourite albums of the year so far, ‘Serotonin’.

Mystery Jets William Rees takes lead vocals on the sweet and summery track; discussing the pros and cons of quickly forgotten love in nightclubs. It’s an addictive three and a half minutes that will surely liven up any flagging dancefloors over the next few months. Released through Domino on August 16th, the track comes backed with some quality remixes from the likes of Buraka Som Sistema and CRST.

Tag Of The Day! Robyn ‘Hang With Me’

July 21st, 2010
Comments Off

While the first of the three mini albums she plans to release through the year is still fresh, Robyn has unveiled her new single, previewing the second offering of ‘Body Parts’.

‘Hang With Me’ has just leaked online, right after the Swedish pop star appeared on the popular David Letterman show in the States and it’s just another brilliant example of the diminutive singer’s remarkable talent for writing perfect pop tunes. We were already familiar with it thanks to a stripped-down, acoustic version that was included in the first part of the trilogy, but it greatly benefits from its new electropop makeover.

The track will be released on September 6th and looks set to join ‘Dancing On My Own’ and ‘With Every Heartbeat’ as another of Robyn’s career peaks.

New Music First! Duffstep

Getting To Sirius LP (Album Sampler 12″) by Duffstep

23 year old Jeremy Duffy is a man with his fingers in many pies. He’s previously been making waves under his Duff Disco pseudonym – where he slickly reworked classic off kilter pop tracks from the likes of David Bowie, Steve Miller Band and even ’90′s R&B miscreant, Mark Morrison. Releasing short runs of vinyl only material, Duffy hit the top of the charts in several trend setting record emporiums including Juno and London’s uber hip Phonica. This lead to early plaudits from DJ tastemakers such as The Revenge and Shazam favourite Greg Wilson – not bad for a man making his first steps into production.

Now Duffy is set to unleash his latest project – Duffstep. As the name would suggest the music focuses on Dub Step, but takes in the more multi faceted and sonically colourful aspects of the genre ala Mount Kimbie or Flying Lotus. Warm, fuzzy and flecked with vocal snippets; the forthcoming album is pretty far from the guttural speaker shaking grunt of traditional club focused Dub Step. An early highlight of Duff’s album seems to be ‘Close Your Eyes’ a lush downtempo number that manages to cram a hell of a lot of musical detail in while still seeming spacious.

For more info on Duffstep head to his Soundcloud page for dates. You can also download a full Duff Step mix by clicking the widget below

Duffstep ‘Getting To The Sirus’ is out soon via Join The Dots.

Lovebox 2010 Review

July 21st, 2010

This year’s Lovebox was noteable for several reasons. Firstly the event – usually spread out over two days – had expanded to a three day festival, with eager revelers able to kick proceedings off on the Friday. Another factor that worked in Lovebox’s favour this year was the flawless weather. London has recently experienced an enviable amount of sunshine, something that was obviously lapped up by this year’s attendees. Add this to a bulging list of amazing bands, performers and DJ’s and you get what turned out to be a spectacular weekend for all involved. The strength of Lovebox has always been its ability to attract a genre defying, wide ranging line up and this year was no different. Click on the link below to read our full run down of the weekend.
